Born on July 24, 1980, in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, Tanuj pursued a Diploma in Marine Electrical Engineering before venturing into the entertainment industry. Initially, he joined the team of Ye Duniya Hai Rangeen as a writer. However, the director of the show later invited him to join Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, where he was cast as Mr. Iyer, a role that was not initially part of the script. The character was introduced upon the suggestion of actor Dilip Joshi, who portrayed Jethalal in the series StarsUnfolded.
